The Video Village – The Lizards chat to Nicholas Tag-Harvey about their video and film production journeys

From University to Running Our Own Video Production Companies
In this vodcast, Scott Dymond from Yellow Lizard Media sits down with Nicholas Tag-Harvey, Creative Director of Entervision, to look back at where it all started. The pair first met while studying Film & TV at the University of Hertfordshire, where they spent their time making films, getting involved in different productions and generally figuring out what they wanted to do with their careers. Fast forward a few years and they’ve both gone on to build their own successful video businesses, although their paths have taken them in quite different directions.
Was University Actually Worth It?
The conversation starts by going back to university and looking at the Film & TV course they both studied. From the practical projects and equipment to the different roles they took on, they discuss what they actually got out of the course and whether it prepared them for working in the industry. They also look at some of the things you simply can’t learn in a classroom, and how the experience of working with other creatives helped shape the way they approach video production today.
Two Companies, Two Very Different Worlds
While both Scott and Nicholas have built careers around video, the work they produce now looks pretty different. Yellow Lizard Media is primarily focused on corporate video production, working with businesses to create everything from promotional and testimonial videos to event coverage and video marketing content. Entervision, meanwhile, has taken a more creative route, with Nicholas working across music videos, documentaries and other film projects.
It’s an interesting look at how two people can start in exactly the same place, learn many of the same skills and then end up carving out completely different careers in the video industry.
What’s Next? Outcasts
The conversation also turns to Nicholas’ latest project, Outcasts, an upcoming film series that takes his work in a different direction. He talks about the idea behind the series, how it came about and what he hopes to achieve with the project. It’s a great insight into the creative process behind documentary filmmaking and the difference between producing content for a business and telling a story purely because it’s worth telling.
For any aspiring videographer or filmmaker, it’s a particularly interesting part of the conversation and a reminder that there are plenty of different routes you can take with a career in video.
From Film Students to Filmmakers
Ultimately, this vodcast is a chance to look back at where it all began and see just how much can change after leaving university. From working on student productions together to running separate video production companies and taking on completely different types of projects, Scott and Nicholas have both found their own paths within the industry.
So, whether you’re interested in becoming a videographer, thinking about studying Film & TV or simply curious about what goes on behind the scenes of running a video production company, there’s plenty to take away from the conversation.
